Where does the Data come from?

The data surfaced in EnergyBI are aggregated from several sources and prioritized to show only the most reliable results. 

Customer or CSR entries

Any firsthand information entered into Uplight’s system by a customer. This is given top priority because it tends to be the most accurate, and customers are happier when the information they see is consistent with their understanding. This type of data is particularly valuable as it tends to not only be the most complete, but also allows us to cross-check other sources for accuracy.

Utility-provided data

When we don’t have information gathered firsthand, utility-provided data is the next best thing. Utilities run a whole spectrum of programs - from energy efficiency to income-qualified - that generate pertinent data about customers, past utility activities, and the dynamic between customers and their utility.

Experian

Experian offers a massive quantity of useful data, with an extensive array of data for most dwellings in the United States. However, that very size present practical challenges when it comes to extracting actionable answers to business questions. By using a sophisticated algorithm to match Experian data with their corresponding utility records, curating a list of only the most important fields, and performing a variety of translation/preprocessing operations we reveal the value hidden in this imposing resource.

Cross-reference with third party for improved accuracy

Incorporating data from multiple sources allows us to cross-reference for accuracy and construct composite profiles which describe both the physical properties of a service location, and the demographic attributes of its occupants. While the benefits of multiple data sources are considerable for characterizing an individual location, they are especially valuable for performing population-wide analysis. For instance, we are able to leverage the different times each data set is updated/created to isolate temporal aspects of a demographic shift. Additional sources of information are steadily being incorporated into the tool allowing us to introduce additional data fields, and to increase overall data accuracy.
